From Seville, Sombody That I Used To Know To Anxiety

Doechii, Walk Off The Earth, Luiz Bonfá, Gotye & Kimbra

This is a small epic story from musical industry that started back in 1967. I think that this story deserves a beginning the same as beginnings of fairy tales:

“A long time ago (1967), in Brasil, lived, played guitar and composed beautiful jazz music, Luiz Bonfá…”. Truly, Luiz has so rich career and made so many great songs. His discography is a masterpiece that you can listen for years and you will not get tired of it. But “Seville” was one of these short and, compares to the rest of his deeds, insignificant songs. But it is catchy and pretty like most of his work.

Now, let’s get back into present. Actually, let’s go to 2011. That year, until then, not that popular Australian musician called “Gotye“, along with his friend and colleague, a singer with brilliant voice “Kimbra“, made a song “Somebody that I used to know”. He wrote a great love lyrics and used Seville as a sample. I think I hear it right after its releasing and I said it “This is going to be a great hit!”. And it did become that! Years after that, we still can’t get enough of it.

People listen it! People love it! Hate it! Make fun of it! It became so huge that Gotye doesn’t have to do anything else in life after this song. It produced so many covers and one of the most popular is created by “Walk off the Earth” – Canadian indie pop band from Burlington, Ontario, that is known for its music videos of covers and originals.

And then, years passed! I just thought that the song’s glory vanished and it is slowly leaving us, once again it got reincarnated! Now, a new planetary prodigy, an American rapper, singer, and songwriter, popped up! Her name is Doechii. Now, she took Seville and made a new hit – song called “Anxiety” and it totally infected us all!

Recently, my friend told me that he had enough of this Gotye’s song and its covers. He didn’t know that this is not it. Doechii just did the same thing as Gotye, she used Seville as sample and made a new song. That says enough of music present days. Like it or not, that’s how it is. But I think, “Anxiety” is as good as “Somebody That I Used To Know”.

Doechii – Anxiety

About Luiz Bonfá’s epic discography and new music star Doechii some other time. All I can think about now is that I doubt that back then, while Liuz was making a short insignificant theme called “Seville”, he thought how popular it will become across the planet. Not once, but many times over and over!
